EXPERIENCE SHARED BY MS SOH

Retirement is far from boredom – at least that’s how I see it. On a daily basis, I take up gardening and I try new recipes that I’ve never made before. It’s a simple way of living and I finally got to enjoy my newfound freedom; because interestingly enough, as you get older your desires decrease. 

Granny’s responsibilities

Getting into new hobbies was one of the things I look forward to each day, but since the birth of my grandson, I had a purpose. It was a responsibility that made my retired life beautifully meaningful. However, added responsibilities mean increased body aches.  I love taking care of my dear grandchild, but it’s difficult to care for him as I constantly suffer from backaches, neck strain, and overall aching on my body. Despite the pain, any grandparents will do their best to look after their grandchildren. 

Attempting treatments

Months went by yet the aching did not stop. Of course, it’s natural for older people to experience body pain – well, that’s what I thought. And so, I only stuck to taking pills to reduce the pain. Until one day, during my birthday, my son and his wife visited me and got me a heat lamp to thank me for looking after their baby. I was told that the heat lamp soothes targeted pains in the body.  At first, I was skeptical. What if it will do more damage than good? I proceeded by telling my daughter-in-law to return the item but she insisted that I try it because it was highly recommended by her friends. I caved in eventually. After a few tries, I rarely feel any discomfort or aching on my body which made it easier for me to look after my grandchild!

Caring for the little one while staying healthy

There may have been challenges raising my grandchild but there are more joys to it. To me, it wasn’t a big issue because as long as I’m in excellent health, caring for my grandchild will always be a priority. And to my fellow friends who are having a hard time dealing with backaches or stiffness, give the heat lamp a try! Who knows, you might just benefit from using it.
